Welcome to your go to page for all information regarding the introduction of students with an EAL/D background. Some of you may have never associated or interacted with a student quite like this before, and we will be using a whole-school approach to ease this transition for the families arriving to our school. This will obviously include you, our admin staff, tuckshop workers, groundskeepers and cleaners.


To the right are some general resources for education and guidance for interactions and cultural engagement. Following this will be more specific resources for both the tuckshop workers and admin staff. By engaging in this professional development, you are contributing to are multicultural and inclusive school, which is incorporated in our mission statement. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.


Curriculum – Supporting EAL/D Students
This resource links the Australian Curriculum guidelines for supporting EAL/D students. It defines what an EAL/D student is and how we can plan for meaningful interactions. If you have limited knowledge, engaging in this resource allows you to gain a basic understanding.


Immersive Reader
This resource is an addition to both Microsoft Word and OneNote and allows the translation of documents into the language of students coming to our school. This eases communication barriers between staff and students, as well as parents. Communication between parents is extremely important as they are partners in learning, and this resource allows you to establish and maintain a partnership with these parents. Your knowledge of this application may also assist other members of our community navigate through it


Tuckshop Workers
You will be coming into contact with our students very frequently when it comes to ordering lunch from the tuckshop. A picture menu will be displayed for the students, as seen below. This will be useful for them as they will be able to point to the item and keep the tuckshop running smoothly. It is important to double check what the student is asking for, as well as repeating the item, such as ‘chocolate milk’, to reiterate the item they are after.


Admin Workers
Our new students in particular will be coming to you with first-aid concerns, as well has handing in any forms. For the sake of simplicity we have displayed a diagram as seen below in the office hallway, as well as in the first aid room for the students to point where their pain is. This will ease the ways in which we interact with students and assess their injuries
